Timeline of my journey

At the time of writing this, it is early in the morning of where I live. As I write this, my dog Bomi is laying down next to my chair. This morning, she had an upset stomach and has not been feeling too well. She seems to be feeling much better now.

Here is one of my favorite pictures of her. 284134933_736806957351884_3120608389595914675_n.jpg She is still a puppy and less than a year old. (update: She is feeling much, much better now! She is wild and happy, and she is living her best, good life)

Well, I wanted to document my journey from where I am now to Bergen, Norway. This document will always be evolving. (and this document is finally complete as on 12 Oct, 2022!)

  • Since ten years ago, I have always wanted to see more of the outside world
  • I began my search by looking into different countries such as Japan and Switzerland
  • I even started learning Japanese as one of my potential ways to move and work there
  • Where I live now, the air quality is not so great. I always have difficulty breathing, and the costs of getting a surgery to fix that is absurdly high. To give yourself an idea of what it feels like to not breathe properly, use a finger and block the airway of one of your nostrils. That is the exact feeling I get each day even now. Frustrating, isn't it?
  • My ultimate verdict was that I just need to get out of Texas. This climate is not suited for me at all.
  • During my search into the perfect place, I met a special someone from Norway
  • Because I was interested in her, I decided to learn more about where she was from, and started learning her language on the side
  • I became much more interested in Norway and being with her, my interests and goals greatly aligned together, so I took this whole Norway situation very seriously
  • I started learning the language's grammar, even considered obtaining my master's degree at a university there
  • Then I did half of Duolingo, listened to podcasts each night, paid for classes until they became too expensive to afford. So back to self-studying!
  • I also started reading books in Norwegian, watched shows on NRK (I really liked Førstegangstjenesten!)
  • My girlfriend taught me about musicians such as Aurora, Astrid S., Ylvis (who sang The Fox song!!)
  • She helped me visit Norway this year
  • On my first day in Norway, I saw people in bunad
  • My girlfriend also bought me delicious pretzel and juice from Rema 1000
  • I got to visit Bergen sentrum, even ate delicious sashimi in Bryggen
  • After my trip ended, I went back to the United States feeling motivated to work hard
  • So I finished up my university program and got my degree
  • These past few months, I have been applying to jobs in Bergen (because I absolutely loved the city)
  • I have gotten 40+ rejections, but I am someone who does not give up. So I kept working hard until I found a company who would finally give me a chance
  • I am now a full stack developer working with awesome marine technology!
  • Over a series of weeks, I have been preparing my belongings, ready to go on a long journey to begin a new chapter of my life in Norway
  • And right now, I am currently sitting in my new home in Bergen as I wonder what will happen tomorrow and from now on
  • Let's see where life takes me!
